Q- Why a scholarship at Oxford College? A - Mr. Palmer tells the story of how Alan felt about Oxford. Everyone expected AP to attend UGA, as he was a big Bulldog fan growing up. Unbeknownst to his family, AP applied to and was accepted by Oxford College. In that first year, HP asked how things were going at school? AP told him "Dad, this is where I belong"........... You may know that AP was on Emory’s soccer and golf teams and, as you can imagine, was very active socially—including membership in the Kappa Alpha fraternity. He was tapped to be Dooley's Spokesman while at Oxford. To be the Spokesman for the "spirit of Emory" is one of the school's highest honors and reflects the leadership position AP held on campus. It was a place Alan held dear. For more information on Oxford College or Oxford

Q – How much money is needed to fund the Scholarship? A – To fund the scholarship in perpetuity $50,000
is needed. Anything over
the $50,000 will lead to a larger scholarship for the recipient. Monies
received after the April presentation of the scholarship will be added
to the fund. If $50,000 isn’t reached, the money will be given out on
a one-time basis in Alan’s name.
We are happy to report we are well on the way to $50,000 thanks
to several generous early donations. |
Q – Who will receive the Scholarship? A – A rising sophomore at Oxford, who exhibits
the leadership qualities of Alan, will be chosen by the College on an
annual basis. We are
committed to ensuring the recipient knows who Alan Palmer was and the
character traits that made him so beloved—his sense of humor, his
generous compliments, his sincerity, his sarcasm, his caring, his
friendship, his big hugs. We think this is a very fitting, "living" memorial
to Alan. |
Q – Is this donation tax-deductible? A – Yes, Emory University will provide an acknowledgement for tax purposes. Oxford College is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization (Tax ID: 58-0566256). Note: Your
